本研究は、立命館大学で作製した6種のデータ・ベース及び国立国会図書館作製のGHQ/SCAP文書のディスクリプション・カードのデータ・ベースに関する作業環境を、ファイルメーカー・プロなどを活用して改善することから着手した。その結果、この2種のデータ・ベースに関する作業環境は大幅に改善され、これらデータ・ベースを用いて追求する資料の所在、量、性格の検索のレベルは、それ以前に比べ一挙に高まった。こうした条件整備を踏まえ、戦争犯罪関係では従来考えられていたLS(法務局)支書だけでなく、AG(高級副官部)文書を中心とするその他の部局でも重要関連資料を発見することが出来た。同様の発見は、CAS(民事局)の「軍政活動月報」やGS(民政局)の政党関係資料、さらにはCIE(民間情報教育局)の教育行政と文化財関係資料の検索でも見ることが出来た。

以上の資料探索を踏まえ、「戦争責任関係」の研究では、戦犯裁判の分野でLSのInvestigation Division Report(調査部報告)を中心とした資料の存在状況とその特質が、また公職追放分野ではGS(民政局)・ESS(経済科学局)・CIE(民間情報教育局)を中心とした資料の存在状況とその特質が明らかにされた。続いて「文化財」関係の研究では、CIE(民間情報教育局)のConference Report(会見録)中の、Cultural Property及びNational Treasureに関する資料群が明らかにされた。さらに「教育行政」関係では、京都軍政部の担当官ケーズ(E.H.Cades)の巻き起こした所謂ケーズ旋風について、CAS(民事局)の「軍政活動月報」での資料検索を中心に研究が行われた。また、このCAS(民事局)の「軍政活動月報」の様式と、データベース検索で明らかになった「月報」全体の残存状況を細部にわたり明らかにした調査研究が行われている。

This study is started from improvement of operation circumstance, for the work of six kinds of data bases which Ritsumeikan University produced, and data bases of description card which National Diet Library produced, making use of the File Maker Pro. As a consequence, operation circumstance for the work of these data bases, greatly improved, and making use of these data bases, levels of references for location, volume, and character of archives, grew at a stretch. As a result of improvement of operation circumstance, in the field of war responsibility, we found confidential related archives in AG section and other sections, not only in LS.Similarly, we found the forms of Military Government Activities Monthly Report of CAS, political party confidential records of GS, and important records of educational administration and cultural properties of CIE section.

As a result of reference of archives, in the field of war responsibility, we studied of character of Investigation Division Report of LS which referred war trials, and studied of character of archives of GS, ESS, and CIE section which referred political purges. In the field of cultural resources, we studied of character of archives of in CIE section Conference Report which referred cultural property and national treasure. In the field of educational administration, we studied so called Cades Whirlwind which E.H.Cades of Kyoto Military occupational force officer occurred, making use of Military Government Activities Monthly Report of CAS.In the study of Military Government Activities Monthly Report of CAS, we studied of forms of Monthly Report in detail, and found of location of whole archives.
