本研究（都市「社会問題空間」の布置構造とその変容に関する研究）は、都市における社会的諸問題の「複合的」な「集積」および「拡散」を地図化することを通じて、「社会問題空間」の存在形態とその空間的な広がり、そしてそこで生きる人びとの生活上の困難の実態を、都市の階層構造という視点から明らかにする。
具体的には、都市の「社会問題マップ」と「階層マップ」を作成し、社会問題の「集積」と「拡散」の状況を明らかにしつつ、同時に、福祉行政施策に関する業務統計データの分析と、困難を抱える人々への直接的支援を市民活動として行っている人びとへの聞き取り調査による知見から、地図上に現れた「集積」や「拡散」の意味を読み解く。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Through the analysis of various official statistical data, including census data, and field work in the region, we clarified the spatial expansion of various social problems in the urban areas of Osaka Prefecture.We were also able to identify the historical processes through which these social problems accumulated, diffused, and were resolved in the region. The results of these works were then "mapped" on various scales to create a "map of social problems in Osaka". Furthermore, by "deciphering" these maps, we were able to specifically identify and visualize the concentration areas of social problems in Osaka. In particular, we were able to categorize the “Dowa Districts” in Osaka Prefecture by measuring the depth and concentration of social problems in these areas, and to clarify the process of change in these areas over the past 30 years.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
国勢調査データを中心とした官庁統計データの独自再集計に基づいて、大阪府内の（小）地域における社会的諸問題の発生・蓄積・持続・拡散の過程を具体的に明らかにして、都市における「社会問題空間」の布置構造を明らかにしたこと。そしてこれらの分析の結果を「社会問題地図」として地図化することによって、大阪における「社会問題空間（社会的諸問題の集積地）」を多様なスケールで可視化したこと。さらには大阪府内における「同和地区」を「社会問題空間」という視点から総括し、その類型化を行い、これを通じて、大阪の「同和地区」が「都市下層社会」へと組み込まれている（組み込まれつつある）ということを明らかにしたこと。
