Abstract

My personal concern in Bhutan, and a long history between Academic Alpine Club of Kyoto (AACK) and Bhutan was described. Since 2008, "High Altitude Project" lead by Okumiya K in Research Institute for Humanity and Nature (RIHN) aiming to investigate actual situation of health and happiness of community-dwelling elderly people living in Khalin in Bhutan and to contribute to geriatric health policy in Bhutan has launched. Independently from the project of RIHN, Kyoto University Bhutan Friendship Program (KUBFP) aiming academic exchange and mutual contribution between Kyoto University and Bhutan has got off the ground. In 2009, the two projects intermediated by the passionate longing of Dr. Sakamoto R and efforts of AACK came across in Thimphu in Bhutan. At the Biennial Health Conference of Ministry of Health in Bhutan held in Mongar on 7-9th November 2011, the geriatric mission by RIHN and Kyoto University cooperated by Ministry of Health was formally approved on the 11th 5-year National Planning of The Kingdom of Bhutan.
