Outline of Final Research Achievements

To support active interaction with foreign researchers, three main activities including enhancement of international collaboration, travel support for visiting the foreign research institutes and invitation of prominent foreign scientists were promoted. The international collaboration using ncRNA knockout mice were particularly supported. Also the travel fee for short term stay of young researchers in the foreign research institutes were particularly supported. These activities linked to multiple international collaboration with the group members that eventually achieve publication of 34 research articles.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

競争の激しいncRNA研究分野において、様々な本領域独自の高品質な研究成果を世界に向けて発信し、その結果それらが国際的に認知されるに至った。特にarcRNAを独立のタクソンとして提唱するに至ったことは、本領域の目指すネオタクソノミの実践成果として、国際的な学問分野にインパクトを与えた。その結果、我が国のRNA研究のプレゼンスの向上に大きく貢献した。また次世代を担う研究者の育成に重要な役割を果たすことができた。一方で本領域の成果は、国際的な一般社会における自然科学の基礎概念、医療技術、次世代の融合科学の発展に向けた多くの可能性を提示したと言える。
