Outline of Final Research Achievements

The area of "systems cancer," which combines cancer biology and cancer research with computational system biology, is deepened by utilizing supercomputers and artificial intelligence, and at the same time, is a patient-centered principle that responds to innovations in genome analysis. By fusing ELSI research, we managed to create a new dimension of cancer research fusion area. We published a series of newsletters and held symposia. In addition, a series of seminars on large-scale data analysis and analysis technology using supercomputers was held.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

総括班のマネジメントにより、極めてインパクトのあるがん研究の科学的成果を創出できた。多彩なアウトリーチ活動により、海外も含め社会とのコミュニケーションが図られ、「がん」と「人工知能・スーパーコンピュータ」、そして「ELSI研究」が融合した領域の誕生が社会的に認識された。2020年3月に日本科学未来館から行った動画配信は、7000人以上の参加と2000件以上のメッセージがあり、象徴的イベントとなった。領域外のがん研究者、バイオインフォマティクス研究者、人文系研究者に対して、この新次元へと深化していく本領域のインパクトが伝わった。
