Outline of Final Research Achievements |
We succeeded in discovering a new type of slow earthquakes in the offshore area, which was difficult to observe until now, and in the frequency band that overlaps with microseism noise. We have reached the basic understanding that the slow earthquake is an "ultra-broad band phenomenon" that extends from the band of low frequency tremor to the band of slow slip event, and that "inhomogeneity" and "water" play important roles in its occurrence. In addition, in collaboration with geology, the geological reality of slow earthquakes has been clarified, and modeling has progressed to explain various characteristics of slow earthquakes.
