| Outline of Research at the Start |
イスラーム文明は1400年の歴史の中で、人と人の水平方向の「つながりづくり」を発展させて拡大してきた。人・モノ・情報の移動の現場の多彩なつながりづくりを「コネクティビティ」という言葉でとらえ、そこで人と人、集団と集団の間でどのように信頼が構築されてきたかを明らかにする。イスラームの歴史的な国家間関係、人々のしたたかな戦略的行動と思想、世界の紛争現場における平和構築、といった各方面からこれらの問題に取り組む。人文情報学の手法も使い、これまで意識されつつも具体的に見えてこなかった「暗黙知」を明らかにして、現代世界にて深刻化する分断をのりこえるための確かな「戦略知」を提示する。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The aim was to extract tacit knowledge and present strategic knowledge about establishing relationships and building trust across the entire Islamic civilization, from its beginning to the present time.
As a whole field, the "Connecting from Islam" series has been published in eight volumes (The University of Tokyo Press, 2023-25). Volume 1 of the series, "An Invitation to the Study of Islamic Trust," provides a straightforward introduction to the content of this field, and from Volume 2 onwards, each research team has accumulated knowledge on Islamic economics, transformation of academic knowledge, migration and refugees, the Islamic state system, thought and strategy, peacebuilding, and digital humanities.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
今日のイスラーム研究の最先端を踏まえつつ、そこにコネクティビティと信頼構築という問題を通してイスラーム文明の総体を新しい角度で再編成することができた。参加した研究者も狭義のイスラーム研究者のみならず多分野の研究者におよび、新たな学術的交流を行う場を得たことで、各自の専門性をより高い次元に引き上げることができた。特にデジタルヒューマニティーズ分野が加わったことが大きい。若手研究者が様々な形で活躍し、新たな研究を提案する機会も得られた。多数生じた国際的な時事問題についても社会に対して知見を迅速に提供した。展示や参加型の催しを多数企画し、社会に向けた発信も行った。
