Outline of Research at the Start

ダークマターは存在が確実で,宇宙の星や銀河を作った立役者だが,その正体は不明である。 本領域ではダークマターの質量で90桁に亘る広大なディスカバリースペースを網羅的にカバーするため,今までにない多角的な方法で理論から宇宙観測・地上実験にまたがる研究領域を拓くことを目指す。近年急速に技術が成熟したレーザー干渉計や,すばる観測・加速器・人工衛星 ・重力波・高エネルギーニュートリノを含むタイムリーな実験・観測でダークマターに迫る。特に日本の投資による既存の最先端施設を有効活用し,若手研究者のユニークなアイディアによって工夫を加えることでインパクトの高い結果が出すことを目指す。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

宇宙の物質の大部分を占めるダークマターの正体を解明するために、今までにない多角的な方法で理論から宇宙観測・地上実験にまたがる研究領域を拓きその正体に迫る。
本年度、新たにそれぞれの質量範囲における実験・観測の重層化が期待出来る独創的な後期公募研究が加わった。これまで得られた制限等を発展させ、観測・実験のデータ結果が出次第、理論的解釈が出来るように領域横断的に準備を進めた。また、領域研究期間最終年度に向け、データの取得が予定される観測・実験結果の統計的有意性を示せるように、総括班及び全計画研究メンバー・後期公募研究代表者を中心として、各プロジェクトの進捗状況を発表し、意見交換が出来るシンポジウムを開催した。この間、領域評価者参加の対面を主とした総括班会議を開催し、成果の取りまとめに向け領域運営の助言を得た。
主な研究成果:1)すばるHSCの3年間データの弱重力レンズ効果の精密測定から、宇宙の標準理論ΛCDMの物理パラメータを測定し、宇宙背景放射の示唆するΛCDMモデルとの矛盾を示す、いわゆるS8不一致問題を指摘した成果(これらの論文は、全体の0.5%程度しか選ばれないPhys. Rev. DのViewpointに選ばれた)、2)本研究グループがCMBデータから発見している複屈折角の示唆が、宇宙空間を占めるアクシオン場である可能性を調べ、それが宇宙のダークエネルギ-と関係している可能性を調べた(Phys. Rev. Lett.に掲載)、3)すばる高感度可視光カメラHSCのデータを再解析し、高エネルギー宇宙線起源の大量の2次粒子が引き起こす空気シャワーを非常に高い位置分解能で可視化する手法を開発した融合研究(Natureに掲載)、などがある。この他にも大学院生がリードした研究、また異なる分野の研究者の共同研究など、多くの研究成果が発表され、領域として、十分な進展があった。

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.

Reason

今年度中間報告書の成果取りまとめの過程で、領域発足以降450編を超える査読論文の発表が出来ていることが分かった。その内、Physical Review Lettersが26本、Natureが5本、Scienceが1本出ており、計画研究グループ間もしくは計画研究グループと前期公募研究グループ間の共同研究のみならず、前期公募研究間の共同研究も多く生まれ、それらの融合研究による80編以上の論文が発表された。特に最先端の観測データがあるグループからの共同研究の多さは、すばる分光・イメージング観測の実験・観測の開発研究の進展と究極班の構造形成理論計画研究との有機的な連携体制が功を奏したと言える。引き続き、領域研究全体のみならず分野のコミュニティに最先端の知見を広げながら、最終年度に向けて成果のとりまとめの領域運営をしていく。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

最終年度に向けて本格化する観測・実験研究計画の動きをあげる。B01:干渉計実験DANCEでは、共振周波数差が大きく感度に支障があったが、レーザー光の波長を調整し、共振周波数をゼロにする開発を進め、KAGRA重力波検出器を利用した初のアクシオンDMデータの取得を期待する。B02:すばる主焦点多天体分光Prime Focus Spectrograph (PFS)プロジェクトでは、試験観測データの取得、評価、検証を通し、サイエンス運用後速やかにダークマター探査の研究を行うための準備研究を進める。B04: X線分光撮像衛星XRISMのデータおよび太陽アクシオンのkeV質量のダークマター探査の研究を進める。B05: 2024年度に運転が再開するBelleIIのデータを念頭に、ダークマター研究を進める。B06: CMB偏光データの複屈折角の理論的、観測的研究を進める。これらの動きに、理論的解釈を融合させて領域全体のパラダイムシフトを目指す。
総括班は、国際共同研究推進・近年高止まりする出張経費削減の観点からオンラインコミュニケーションツール活用を維持しつつ、メール審議を含めた定期的な総括班会議を通し、若手育成に配慮しつつ、領域全体の進展をモニターし、本領域が最大限の成果を達成出来るよう、計画研究及び後期公募研究の間の融合研究を、引き続き鋭意促進・総括する。
