Outline of Research at the Start

本研究は,地球化学・海洋物理・水産海洋学・水産資源生態学という異なる学問分野にまたがる研究内容を,一つの大きな枠組みの研究として融合し再構築するものである.プロジェクトに参加するメンバー全員が全容と立ち位置が把握できるような仕組みを構築しつつ,情報共有や人的交流を促進し,若手研究者を育成する役割を主導する.研究内容や研究成果を社会・国民にわかりやすく提供する役割も担う.

Outline of Final Research Achievements

The coordinating team worked to build a system that allowed all members to clearly understand the overall project and their individual roles. The coordinating team also promoted information sharing, encouraged collaboration and communication among members, and supported the growth of early-career researchers. To help everyone in the project stay up to date on progress, we organized and held annual meetings. To increase international awareness of the project and promote global collaboration, we introduced the project at international conferences. We also created a website to explain the research goals and results in a way that is easy for the general public to understand. In addition, we took the lead in public outreach efforts to make our communication more effective.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

研究内容を紹介するためには興味をもってもらいたい対象に会わせて内容を設定する必要がある.「海洋生物の生態」という比較的わかりやすく興味が湧きやすい研究テーマであり,今後数十年の時間スケールでできるだけ多くの人に興味を持って欲しい,かつ,最先端の研究も展開していきたい,という思いを両立させるべく,自然の好きな中学生から大学生の研究テーマ選びに参考になる程度の平易さを目指したウェブサイトを構築した.また,できるだけ多くの人に研究内容の面白さを届けるために,NHK「ダーウィンが来た!」の取材協力や国立科学博物館特別展への展示協力など,多くの人の目に触れやすいプッシュ型に近いアウトリーチを行った.
