| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Our project "Comparative studies on Ancient American Civilizations" carries out an innovative study on Mesoamerican and Andean civilizations by means of a collaboration between a variety of human and social scientists, including archaeology, history and cultural anthropology, and natural scientists. We carry out LiDAR survey around the site of Ceibal, Guatemala, and Nasca, Peru, to provide a complete view of how the archaeological remains were distributed over the landscape.We also provide refined chronological frameworks based on precise varve counting and high-precision C-14 dating. Our project contributes to a better historical understanding in Latin American countries, artistic creation and industrialization, and tourism development as a resource created by means of Ancient American civilizations, as well as a formation of national and regional identities in Latin America.

従来はテーマ毎の比較考古学研究はあっても、メソアメリカ文明とアンデス文明が個別に研究される傾向が強かったのに対して、本研究は旧大陸の文明の影響を受けずに発達した一次文明の特性や社会変動を多面的に比較し、人類の文明の多様なあり方を明らかにする。研究対象とする時代を先スペイン期に限定するのではなく、植民地時代や現代の中南米の人々が古代文明を資源化して再解釈するのかを示し、古代アメリカの「文明の終焉」の概念を批判的に検討する。世界史における諸文明の共通性と多様性を再認識し、従来の西洋中心的な文明史観では得られない新しい歴史的知とバランスの取れた「真の世界史」・「真の文明史」の構築に大きく寄与する。
