Outline of Annual Research Achievements

以下の6項目について研究を実施した:①高解像度モデルにおける混合過程のパラメータ化手法開発、②混合過程のパラメータ化を取り入れた太平洋モデリング、③混合過程のパラメータ化を取り入れた全球海洋モデリング、④混合過程のパラメータ化を取り入れた気候モデリング、⑤粒子追跡手法に基づく生物地球化学過程モデル開発、⑥太平洋の二酸化炭素吸収および酸性化に関するモデリング。
①では内部波の伝播を陽に考慮する混合過程パラメータ化の開発を開始した。海洋・気候モデリングへの適用については翌年度以降に実施する。②では前年度に実施した高解像度太平洋モデリングの結果を解析し、特に黒潮親潮混乱水域における水塊混合が北太平洋の中層循環に及ぼす影響を調べた。黒潮の振舞に一部非現実的な部分があり、それに伴って中層循環への影響にバイアスが生じてしまったが、混合の影響を定量化することができた。黒潮の振舞については翌年度以降③の中で引き続き実施する。③では全球海洋中深層循環に対して混合過程が及ぼす影響を評価するための数値モデルの設定および予備実験を実施した。上述した黒潮の振舞の問題が残ってはいるが、その解決の見通しを立てることができ、翌年度以降の準備は順調であった。④では高解像度気候モデリングの設定および予備実験を実施した。⑤では前年度までに開発された粒子法に基づく生物地球化学過程モデルを現実的設定の海洋モデリングに適用し、モデルの検証と再検討を実施した。⑥では二酸化炭素の挙動を中心とした物質輸送モデリングを開始した。

各研究項目で順調にモデル開発および数値実験を実施することができ、当初見込んでいた成果を概ね達成することができた。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

当初計画に沿って、研究項目③(高解像度全球海洋モデリング)、研究項目④(気候モデリング)および研究項目⑥(物質循環モデリング)のプロダクトランに入る。これにより、全球海洋中深層循環に対して混合過程が及ぼす影響の評価、18.6年周期潮汐変動が気候に及ぼす影響の評価、および人為起源二酸化炭素の海洋による吸収と輸送の実態解明を目指す。
