Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Nishida and colleagues implemented a self-developed application for measurement of personal values within a large adolescent cohort study. Results of this research demonstrated that acquisition and subsequent revision of role models, along with development of self-regulation, formed the basis for maturation of individual autonomy; individual autonomy then proceeded to underlie formation of personal values. Yamasaki and colleagues, using data from a British birth cohort, demonstrated that the interaction of adolescent personal values and self-regulation predicted wellbeing in old age. Using data from both national and international cohorts, Kawakami and colleagues investigated relationships between childhood experiences and adolescent personal values, and additionally demonstrated influences of adolescent personal values on physical and mental health in adulthood.
