Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The objective of this research is to develop a new bio-logging system with long life, high power and high functionality by utilizing both robot technology (RT) and an environment driven concept. We conducted the following five research topics; (1) development of an environment driven rover for whales, (2) development of a highly maneuverable underwater drone for attaching a logger, (3) development of an environment driven micro-power generation system, (4) development of a remote system using RT, and (5) ecological research on cetaceans. We established a method of adsorbing a whale rover to the whale's body surface by dropping it from a drone. We also developed an adsorption walking mechanism using the water current generated by the whale's swimming. Furthermore, we confirmed that the whale rover adsorbed and walked on the body surface of sperm whale. We have also established the fundamental technology for other systems.
