Outline of Final Research Achievements |
As the research group B02 of the 'Relational Studies on Global Crises', this study aimed to analyse the causes and development process of state failure resulting from conflicts and civil wars, and the transnational networks of non-state actors that emerge in the power vacuum, as well as their position in international politics. It conducted public opinion surveys using the same design in the (potential) conflict countries of Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Libya, Iran, Somalia and Bosnia to analyse the dynamics of transnational political phenomenon and networks and public attitudes towards the rise of non-state actors. In particular, this study analysed the 'relations' between elites and non-elites by focusing not only on the elite's discourses on the state, but also on the way it is viewed by citizens.
