Outline of Final Research Achievements

Aiming to develop Soft Crystals' shape control and transition properties, we carried out experimental studies on organosuperelasticity. Since superelasticity has been known as a peculiar property in a specific kind of metal alloys, organosuperelasticity, the new solid-state property in chemistry, can provide a new platform for studying Soft Crystals with chemical procedures.
In this project, we achieved the development of the synthesis of organosuperelastic crystals (1), the expansion of measuring methods for organosuperelastic crystals (2), and the realizing superelastochromic crystals (3).

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

物質にあまねく備わっている弾性や塑性は、あらゆる材料の基礎物性であるため、それらと強い相関性を持つ超弾性は潜在的に高い一般性と応用性を秘めている。本が新学術領域研究「ソフトクリスタル」では、光学的な特性の導入と、様々な有機・金属錯体の機能性結晶体における超弾性探索を行い、有機超弾性を発現する多彩なソフトクリスタル物質群を見出すのに成功した。化学における新しい固体物性としての有機超弾性の観点からソフトクリスタルを俯瞰し、かつソフトクリスタルの学理進化および将来の応用性を示せたものと思う。
