Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In this study, we have studied GPI modification of GPI-anchored proteins, phosphorylation of extracellular domains of membrane proteins, and special glycosylation of dystroglycans to elucidate the localization of the zones, the molecular mechanism of zone formation, and their physiological functions. We found that some of the GPI-modified zones are formed in the nuclear envelope and adjacent endoplasmic reticulum by lamin, and that the zones are important for biological functions. We also found that phosphorylation zones are formed in a subset of Golgi complexes by the actin regulator twf. In addition, we found that a group of molecules involved in modification of dystroglycan form a complex, and that abnormal formation of the complex causes symptoms such as muscular dystrophy, cardiomyopathy, and lissencephaly.
