We have synthesized and investigated a variety of supported alloy nanoparticle (or metal nanoparticle, especially Au nanoparticle)/solid acid-base hybrid catalysts in which alloy nanoparticle (or metal nanoparticle) catalysts showing specific functions work in concert or in concert with multiple catalysts having independent functions. Based on the obtained knowledge, we have constructed highly functional hybrid catalysts that can realize various reactions, such as intermolecular C-C bond formation, which cannot be achieved by single-element catalyst systems, by the cooperative action of two or more catalytically active species.
