Research Abstract |
We determined the crystal structures of MotY and MotB, which are stator proteins of bacterial flagellar motor, and revealed the molecular mechanism of the stator assembly into the motor. We proposed a new model for the arrangement of FliG in the rotor and the cooperative switching mechanism based on the structure and the characterization of a mutant FliG that shows a CW-biased rotation. We also solved the structures of FliI, FliJ and their complex, which are soluble components of the flagellar type III protein export apparatus, and found that the apparatus shares common architecture with F_1-ATPase.
