Outline of Final Research Achievements |
(i) Japanese BERT was constructed; an artificial neural circuit was built to identify temporal information in documents using BERT. A deep learning model for temporal identification was built for an English task (MC-TACO) that responds to common knowledge about temporal relations. These achieved world-class performance. (ii) The role of language in the generation of time was investigated, with a focus on the basic vocabulary and grammatical mechanisms of temporal expressions, the formation of temporal concepts in humans and non-human animals, and the establishment of episodic memory. (iii) The internal view of the flow of time was examined through analytical philosophy and linguistic representation analysis of the structuring of time. (iv) We played a pivotal role in the Chronogenesis Project by convening a series of seventeen interdisciplinary Time Language Forums with researchers from diverse fields, including neuroscience and neurology.
