Outline of Research at the Start

微生物の種と生理機能に基づいて生態系を理解する世界初のポストコッホ機能生態系のモデルを提唱するために、長期安定して運用されている特定のモデル圃場(畑作施肥試験圃)を設定し、その環境情報(土壌等情報)と基本となる微生物情報(各種オミクス情報)を集積する。本計画研究は、これらを領域内で共有するプラットフォームを創成する。また、圃場生態系微生物の新たな種と機能の解明も行う計画である。

Outline of Final Research Achievements

Large-scale data on microbial species and their physiological functions are essential for modeling and understanding ecosystems. To this end, upland fertilization test fields were managed, and microflora, crop, and environmental data were collected. Specifically, six crops were rotated eight times for five years under seven different fertilization conditions to obtain soil chemistry, microflora, crop, and climatic information for various crop growing periods. The data was the largest, highly reproducible, and accurate data on microflora in crop rotation systems worldwide. Soil samples were distributed to project members (140 in total.) The data created ecosystem model of the test fields.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

微生物と地表の土、水、大気の環境や、ヒト、動物、植物等とのかかわりに関しては個別に研究が進められているが、様々な環境と微生物が深くかかわっている地表の物質循環や生態系の全貌を理解するには至っていない。本研究が集積した8輪作6作物、6栽培時期、7施肥条件の土壌化学、微生物叢、作物、気象データは畑作圃場としては解析期間、精度、規模で世界に例がほとんどない。この圃場由来の未培養な新種細菌の発見、施肥とソバの実の成熟と相関する微生物叢の特定、糸状菌の新たなストレス耐性遺伝子や没食子酸合成酵素の発見の研究成果を得られた。
