Outline of Research at the Start

身体の障害や疾病などによってヒトの身体構造が急激に変化する場合がある。そのような状態でも短時間のリハビリテーション訓練などによって意図したとおりに運動を行うことができるのは,身体運動に関わる脳神経構造が、変化した身体に適応して再構成されているからである。身体の急激な変化は後天的で個体にとって未経験の現象であり、それに対する適応は超適応として定義することができる。この、超適応時の脳神経構造の再構成のメカニズムは明らかでない。そこで、本研究ではヒトと筋骨格構造が類似しているサルを対象に、身体構造を変化させ、それに対する中枢神経系の適応を神経細胞レベルで神経生理学的に評価する。

Outline of Final Research Achievements

During the study period, the complex modalities and background mechanisms of muscle synergy were elucidated and the neuronal sensorimotor linkage mechanisms at the level of the spinal cord and brainstem were clarified. A macaque tendon relocation technique was developed and muscle synergy analysis was used to estimate the structural reorganisation of the central nervous system and its time constant. Furthermore, we focused on sensory prediction errors and sensory inhibition as the neural basis of plastic changes in muscle synergy, and showed that different sensory-motor conversion processes exist in different regions of the CNS.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

ヒトの一生の中で私達の身体は様々な理由により変容してゆく。私達が、その変化した身体構造を使って日常生活を過ごすことができるのは、身体運動を制御する脳神経系構造の再構成が起こっているからである。しかし、その神経メカニズムは本研究の開始時点では十分明らかにされていなかった。本研究で発見した複雑な中枢神経系の適応パタン、つまり、早いダイナミクスと遅いダイナミクスが相互作用しながら変化してゆく変容は、上記の身体変容に対する脳神経構造の再編成パタンの多くを内包していると思われる。したがって、本研究で提案されたモデルによって、疾患や障害からの回復過程を評価することにより、新たな介入方法の開発が期待できる。
