| Outline of Research at the Start |
2020～2021年度は、集成したデータ群を配列し、事象の出現の順番と因果関係を見据えつつ戦争の出現・発展・低減・消滅のプロセスを地域ごとに提示し、「戦争プロセスモデル」を作成する。2022年度は、このモデルにモニュメント築造（A01班）や技術革新・芸術表現（A02班）などの事象を織り込み、戦争プロセスの認知的側面を明示する。2022年度後半～2023年度前半には、B03 身体班と協業し戦争プロセスの身体的側面を解明する。2023年度後半は、C01モデル班との共同作業によって、集団の複合化と戦争という事象が、ヒトの認知と身体を媒介として文明創出に寄与するメカニズムを提示する。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The database for comparing data related to war and social complexity is almost complete. In addition, Fujisawa and Hashimoto contributed to supplement data on the Japanese archipelago. Ichikawa, Sasaki, Watanabe, and Higa, along with research collaborators compiled data for America and Oceania. The comparative analysis in collaboration with the A01 Monuments Group and the A02 Art Group has enabled us to develop a narrative of the relationship between the emergence/disappearance of war, monuments, and art and the developmental process of social complexity. The results will be published in a book series to conclude the Research Area in FY2024. In addition, each member completed their research in the “Out of Eurasia” region, and the results will be published in a book released in FY2025. Based on the works stated above, the principal investigators, Takehiko Matsugi and Naoto Teramae, reviewed and redefined the classification and characterization of warfare-related material evidence.

本研究成果の学術的意義は、人類史における「戦争」という事象を実質的暴力・高度な組織性・経済的要因にのみ限定して復元するこれまでの方法論を脱構築し、暴力の表象を埋め込んだコミュニケーションの痕跡として、それに関する物質資料の発生と進化を世界各地の先史・古代の比較を通じて明らかにし、新たな方法と視点で人類史における「戦争」の変化を明確にしたことである。社会的意義は、以上の作業を通じてヒトと「戦争」の歴史的関わりを明示し、文明発生以前の過去から現代を通じて未来に向けたその変化およびそれとのかかわり方を、背景となった「民族」「宗教」「国家」のあり方と結び付けて考察するための起点を得たことである。
