| Research Abstract |
Viewing a present landscape as a historical artifact of the long-term interactions between two kinds of agents, natural and human, we illustrated holistic landscape histories both of Oceanic atolls (so-called low islands) and Ishigaki-jima (a high island) in Yaeyama Islands in cooperation of geo-archaeology, physical anthropology, historical anthropology and cultural anthropology, in which various concerns of inhabitants with coral reef were discussed and elucidated in a diachronic perspective from the distant past to the present. We were also aggressive to deliver outreach activities making the most of our academic outcomes as to challenge the shared interest among a variety of the present inhabitants in their coming coexistence with coral reef.
