Outline of Research at the Start

有機分子の励起子に対する基礎科学の確立は、広く自然界の現象を理解するために重要である。我々は、従来の常識では起こりえないと考えられていた電荷移動(CT)性三重項からCT性一重項への逆項間交差(RISC)が極めて効率よく起こりえることを実験的に示し、ごく最近、この原因が励起子の「動的」効果によるものであることを解明しつつある。本研究では、このRISCに関する基礎的理解を目指すとともに、一部、展開し始めている一重項分裂(SF)等を含めた諸現象にも拡張し、「動的」エキシトンの学理構築に挑戦する。また、領域内の密な融合により、この学理を深化させるとともに、高特性新規材料、新概念・原理の開拓に繋げる。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

1) TADF分子では、S1-T1間のエネルギー差を小さくするため、HOMO/LUMOを空間的に分離させることが求められる。このHOMO/LUMOの分離はドナー(D)-アクセプター(A)間のねじれ角により大きく左右されるが、有機EL素子内で分子は非晶状態にあるため、その角度がどのようになっているかは不明であった。今回、A02班の鈴木グループ(G)と共同で、動的核偏極固体NMR法により、非晶膜におけるTADF分子のD-A間ねじれ角の定量的解析法を開発し、その定量化に成功した(J. Am. Chem. Soc., 145, 16324 (2023))。また、筑波大学の丸本Gと共同で、TADFデバイスのoperando ESR測定に成功した(Sci. Rep., 13, 11109 (2023))。
2) 有機ELの素子寿命は大きな問題として残されている。我々は、その要因と考えられる材料純度を高める手法を開発した(ACS Sustainable Chem. Eng., 10.1021/acssuschemeng.3c07671)。
3) 我々が領域内で提供したTADF分子設計法を基に、今年度も新たなTADF分子を開発した (Bull. Chem. Soc. Jpn., 97, 1 (2024), A01班の今堀G、秋山Gとの共同研究、Sci. Rep., 13, 7644 (2023), A03班の儘田Gとの共同研究、J. Mater. Chem. C, 11, 5968 (2023), 奈良先端大 河合Gとの共同研究、ACS Appl. Opt. Mater., 10.1021/acsaom.3c00475, インドとの共同研究)。
4) 我々が以前に開発したTADF分子を基に、TADF現象の動的挙動-発光特性相関を英国との共同研究により進めた(J. Phys. Chem. C, 127, 8607 (2023))。ドイツとの共同研究では、1CT, 3CT両準位に影響を与えることなく、3LE準位を独立に変化させることにより発光特性を向上させたTADF分子群に対する基礎研究を進めた(Appl. Phys. Express, 10.35848/1882-0786/ad392a)。

1: Research has progressed more than it was originally planned.

Reason

当初予定していた研究実績の概要3)の新規TADF材料の開発のみならず、研究実績の概要1) において、これまで世界中の誰も知りえなかったD-A間のねじれ角を定量的に解析する手法を確立し、その定量化に成功した。また、研究実績の概要2)においても、現在問題となっている素子寿命に対する一つの解決策を提案している。共同研究は、上記を含め、領域内では14グループとの間で研究を進め、また、海外とは研究実績の概要3)のグループを含め、9グループとの間で共同研究を進めている。以上の点から、当初の計画以上の進展と言える。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

昨年度、大きな進展があった、発光に関わるすべての速度定数の定量的予測に関する研究は、現在さらなる展開へと発展しつつある。また、領域内の中野Gとの共同研究で、新たなTADF材料が開発されつつある。さらに、最低励起一重項(S1)と三重項(T1)のエネルギー準位が逆転したinverted S1-T1分子に関する研究を現在進めている。今後、これらの研究をさらに大きく推進させる。
