Outline of Research at the Start

非WIMPダークマターを実験・理論の双方から追究する本領域においては,個別のシナリオの研究に留まらず,そもそもどのダークマター模型が実現可能であり,研究に値するかといった俯瞰的な問いについて,より根源的な枠組みから考察することが不可欠である。究極理論としての量子重力はまさにそのような枠組みであり,ダークマターの理論を制限する一方,新たなアイデアの宝庫でもある。本研究班では,各理論班にて議論されるダークマター模型を量子重力から実現可能であるのか明らかにしていくこと,また超弦理論に動機づけられて新しいダークマターの模型を提唱することを目標とし,各シナリオの検証可能性を観測実験班と協力しながら探る。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本年度の大きな成果の一つとして、重力を含む有効場の理論の散乱振幅の「正値性」を用いることで、ダークセクターの模型に非常に強い制限を与える可能性を示唆した研究が挙げられる。(本研究班の白井、斎藤、山崎を含む6名による共同研究。arXiv:2305.10058 [hep-ph]としてプレプリントサーバーに掲載、現在査読中。)この研究では散乱振幅の解析性や高エネルギーでの振る舞いなどごく少数の仮定から出発し、ダークセクターの相互作用の強さに下限を与えることに成功した。通常のダークマターの探索実験・観測においては、相互作用の強さに条件を与えることはできるが、相互作用の強さに下限を与えることはできない。従って仮に実験でダークセクターのシグナルが見つからなかった時には、その制限以上に弱い相互作用を考えることで実験の制限を逃れることが常に可能である。しかし、本研究により得られた下限を用いることで、ダークセクターの模型を完全に排除することが原理的に可能になる。上述した我々の研究では、量子重力について一定の仮定が必要であること、また論文で解析された模型が必ずしも現実的な標準模型・ダークセクターの模型でないことなどの改善の余地はある。しかし、少なくとも原理的に下限が存在することを具体的に示してみせたという点において、本研究は画期的な成果であると考えている。
このほかにも、ILCのビームを用いた軽いアキシオン探索、ドジッター空間の微視的状態の半古典的理解、宇宙の複屈折を標準模型の範疇で説明できるかの議論、量子重力由来の大域対称性の破れのダークマター・重力波の探索、弱い重力予想を用いた軽いアキシオンとニュートリノへの制限など、量子重力・素粒子現象論・宇宙論の各分野を横断する成果が続々と得られており、本研究班でのこれまでの様々な活動が実を結びつつあるといえる。

Reason

本学術変革を通じて公募研究参加者の野海氏らと共同研究を開始するに至り、量子重力の制限を用いることでダークセクターの模型に非常に強い制限を与えることができた。この研究は、ダークマターの広大なパラメーター領域を網羅的に探索するという本学術変革の研究に、量子重力ならではの制限を与えたユニークな研究である。このほかにも、研究分担者・研究代表者の専門性を組み合わせ、さらには本学術変革他班や公募研究のメンバーとも共同研究を進めることにより量子重力・素粒子現象論・宇宙論の各分野を横断する成果が続々と得られており、当初の計画を上回る成果が得られていると評価できる。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

本研究の開始から現在まで多彩な研究成果が得られてきており、当初計画を上回るめざましい成果が続々得られてきている。従って、基本的にはこれまでの方針を継続していけば良いと考えている。より具体的な研究テーマの一例として、量子重力から期待される沼地予想の一つとして、「厳密な大域対称性は量子重力では破れていなければいけない」という予想が存在しており、これらの予想の現象論的帰結を系統的に調べる予定である。また、沼地予想の近年の研究では沼地予想自体もアップデートされるようになってきており、たとえばdS予想やAdS予想と呼ばれる沼地予想の修正版も最近議論されるようになってきており、これらの新しい予想を取り入れてダークマターの物理を議論することにも挑戦したい。このほか、過去に雇用した博士研究員や世界中の共同研究者などのネットワークを駆使し、研究成果のアピールにも努めたい。特に最終年度となる2024年度夏には小規模な研究集会の開催も計画している。
