Outline of Research at the Start

本研究では、π電子系の超近接積層を可能にする新規反芳香族系分子群を創製する。 反芳香族π電子系であるノルコロ ールが、結晶中でグラファイトの層間距離より破格に短い距離で積層することを見いだしている。2つのπ電子系がさらに近接し高密度積層する状態を構築できれば、2分子間で分子軌道が重なり合い、分子間電子共役(=高密度共役)が達成されるはずである。このような物質群について、A02・A03・A04班との連携により高密度共役電子系の本質を解明し、π共役を超える新しい共役概念(“X”-conjugation)を提唱する。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究では、「いかにして分子性物質の分子間に存在する空隙を最小化し、分子間電子共役(=高密度共役)を達成するのか?」を核心的な問いとして、反芳香族π電子系間に作用する引力相互作用やヘテロ原子導入によるC-H結合の置換・排除に加え、荷電π電子系間の静電相互作用を相乗的に活用することにより分子間空隙の最小化を実現し、分子間電子共役(=高密度共役)を達成することを目指している。
昨年度合成に成功した周辺置換基として電 子求引基であるペンタフルオロフェニル基を導入したノルコロールニッケル錯体の積層状態について詳細に検討した。電気化学測定の結果からノルコロール骨格の電子密度が低下していることが明らかになり、分子間のπ電子間の交換斥力の低下が近接積層の1つの要因となっていると考えられる。また、GIMIC法を用いたDFT計算によって積層した二量体が大きな反磁性環電流を持つことが判明した。このことはノルコロール間の軌道相互作用により、積層二量体が明確な芳香族性をもつことを支持している。また、濃度可変NMRスペクトルや紫外可視近赤外吸収スペクトルの測定から固体中だけでなく溶液中でもノルコロールの近接積層二量体が主として存在していることが明らかになった。
また、前年度に合成した拡張π共役ボラフェナレンは,そのホウ素上の空軌道とフェナレン部位の反芳香族性に由来して極めて安定な二電子酸化還元特性を示すことが明らかとなった。また,単結晶ー単結晶相転移に伴う高密度化や過渡光電気伝導性といった特性を示しており,新たな有機半導体コアとして期待できる。
さらに、長鎖アルコキシ鎖を導入したノルコロールNi(II)錯体が近接積層した積層3量体からなるカラムナー液晶中間相を形成し、これまでのノルコロール集積体と比較して高い電気伝導性を発現することを見いだした。反芳香族荷電π電子系集合化の可能性を示した重要な結果である。

Reason

本学術変革領域では、分子間の空隙を最小化し、従来の二次元π共役を超える3次元共役電子系の実現を目指しており、0.3 nm以下の分子の近接を目標としていた。本研究では、極めて近接した距離で積層する新規π電子系を創出することを目的としており、実際に0.297 nmの超近接積層を示す分子の創製に成功した。今後、この分子の物性・機能の探求を進めることで領域としての目標達成に期待が持たれるため。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

近接積層したノルコロール二量体の電子物性を詳細に評価することで、分子空隙中で非局在化した電子の本質を明らかにし、“X ”-conjugationの概念の確立に向けて取り組む。 さらに、荷電反芳香族性π電子系を継続して設計・合成し、相反する電荷間での静電力を利用した高密度共役イオンペアの形成に加え、同種 電荷種間での分散力および三次元芳香族性を利用した高密度共役化を検討し、近接積層に起因した物性の発現をめざす。 また、前年度に拡張π共役ボラフェナレンの単結晶ー単結晶相転移に伴う高密度化を見いだした。今年度は周辺共役構造による反芳香族性の 発現とさらなる高密度化に取り組む。
