Research Abstract |
The purpose of this research is to construct "computational anatomical models" and develop model-based computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) systems for several kinds of medical images from different modalities. A large database of medical images was constructed and the models on positions, ranges, variety of surface shapes, and density distributions of the image voxels for major organs and tissues were built. Then, we confirmed that the constructed statistic models were useful for automatic recognitions of 18 kinds of organs and tissues from torso X-ray CT images. In addition, these models were applied to the developments of the CAD systems designed for PET, MR, fundus photograph, dental panoramic radiograph, etc., and found to be effective.
