Research Abstract |
In this study, we examined the molecular mechanisms of photosynthesis and biomass production in rice under conditions of elevated CO2 levels. Enhancement and reduction in Rubisco (photosynthetic CO2 fixation enzyme) content by transformation with a sense or an antisense RBCS construct had an advantage for growth at low and elevated [CO2] levels, respectively. In addition, analyses with starchless rice mutant indicated that starch metabolisms in leaf blades play an important role in growth and biomass production under elevated [CO2] levels
