Research Abstract |
We are interested in how the self-other interaction affects one's behavior. We studied the function of the monkey amygdala and prefrontal cortex in action recognition. The amygdala mainly processed emotional behavior whereas the prefrontal cortex mainly processed communicative behavior. We studied visual scanning patterns of typically developing (TD) infants and children with pervasive developmental disorder (PDD). TD infants exclusively looked at the faces and hands of humans, but children with PDD looked humans without such bias, that is, they looked at bodies and feet as well as faces and hands. Furthermore, we studied neural mechanisms underlying representation of rhythm because rhythm is of great importance not only for music but also for language. Rhythm information was represented in the fronto-parieto-cerebellar motor system. Rhythm may be represented as information about bodily movements in the neural system.
