Outline of Research at the Start	ヒトを含めた多くの動物にとって、他者の「死」の認識は自分自身の生存に直結する、極めて根源的な脳機能である。本学術変革研究は、死の認識を司る脳神経メカニズムを解明するため、脳の中のどこかに存在する「死の認識ニューロン」を見つけることを研究目標とする。また、死と生の認識は必ずどちらかのみであり、両立しえない点に着目し、「生」の認識の中心的役割を担うことが報告されてきたオキシトシンニューロンと、「死」の認識ニューロンとの間で、どのようなメカニズムでお互いの機能を抑え合っているのかを明らかにする。
