Outline of Research at the Start

主に環太平洋地域の沈み込み帯で観測されるSlow地震活動や火山現象のSlowな破壊現象について、地震学、測地学、地質学および地球化学による学際的な視点から比較研究を行う。世界各地で実施された海底地震・圧力計記録、陸上地震計や歪・傾斜計及びGNSS記録の解析、地質調査、海底掘削試料の分析に基づき、世界の沈み込み帯で共通して観測される地震・火山現象中のSlowとFastの破壊現象を支配する共通の要因を抽出する。SlowとFastの破壊現象を支配する場の普遍性や地域性の比較と理解を通じてSlowとFastの破壊現象の実像解明とモデル化を行う。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

世界各地の海底観測記録の解析を進めた。特にニュージーランドとメキシコで得られるスロー地震とそれに伴う地震活動を含む観測記録の解析を継続する。特に両地域のSlow及びFast地震の活動域に着目し、それらの活動域の構造的特徴を抽出して他地域との比較を進めた。
プレート沈み込み帯浅部と深部を対象とした深海掘削と陸域アナログ研究を行った。今年度は、日本海溝沈み込み帯浅部における断層ヒーリングと応力場の実態解明を中心に進めた。また、西彼杵変成岩を対象にプレート境界深部における変形機構とレオロジーについて検討した。
断層すべりと流体との相互作用や流体岩石反応を調べた。プレート境界での断層・流体相互作用を明らかにするため、理論波形データを用いた地震の非ダブルカップル成分の推定精度検証を論文にまとめ、精度向上を目指した手法の検討を進めた。前弧域湧水や変成岩の微量元素・同位体分析に基づき、プレート境界浅部~深部の流体の化学的キャラクタリゼーションを継続して実施した。世界各地の火山における噴火前の傾斜変動の定量的比較を行った。前年度に検知した国内火山の噴火前傾斜変動を波形の一致度に基づき分類し、有限要素法シミュレーションと組合せてソースモデルを検討した。海外の火山のデータを用いて検知アルゴリズムを連続波形データに適用可能なものに発展した。
プレートの3次元形状を考慮した2次元または3次元の温度構造モデル構築とSlow-to-Fast地震の発生シミュレーションを実施した。今年度はジャワ沈み込み帯の3次元温度構造モデリングを実施し、海溝型大地震発生域の温度分布を明らかにするとともに、スラブを構成する含水鉱物の相図より脱水分布を推定した。

Reason

各小課題で着実に成果が得られた。
ニュージーランドでは、2021年10月からヒクランギ沈み込み帯北部で国際共同による海域地球物理観測を開始して現在も継続している。得られたデータに基づき、スロースリップ現象(SSE)の時空間進化を、空間的に変化する弾性地殻特性も考慮した陸上と沖合の測地データの時間依存インバージョンによって明らかにした。メキシコのゲレロ空白域では低周波地震の検出に初めて成功した。
岩相の不均質性と流体の存在は、海山の沈み込みと関連して、またスロー地震の発生とも関連する。奄美大島の秩父付加体の調査から海山の沈み込みに伴う転移クリープによる変形を見出すことに成功した。海山の沈み込みに伴って形成された付加体の剪断帯は、沈み込む海山近傍での微動の発生に関連する可能性が示された。
火山直下で頻繁に観測されるプレート内低周波地震(LFE)のエネルギー放射過程には未解明な点が多い。そのエネルギー放射特性を評価するために,LFEと火山活動域周辺の通常の地震について,スケーリングされたエネルギーを推定した。結果として、FEが通常の地震よりもはるかに低い応力降下と遅い変形を伴っていることが示された。
令和6年度の研究実績は、比較的IFの高い国際誌やオープンアクセス論文を含む複数の論文として公表されている。令和6年度もこれまでと同様に分担者や公募研究の代表者さらには、領域の他の班のメンバーとも強固に連携し情報共有を進めてきた。特に、R6年度は2回の合宿形式の研究集会を実施し、対面による情報共有が十分になされたことも、計画が順調に進展した理由と推察する。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

令和6年度までに5つのテーマ(小課題)について、着実に成果が出た。最終年度では、5つのテーマの有機的な連携をより強化して実施し、SlowとFast地震の発生場の普遍性と地域性の検証を進めて、目標として掲げたSlowからFastに至る破壊現象の実像(実体)の解明を目指す。
