Outline of Research at the Start

単細胞にとっての力学的な周囲環境は「流体」であり、時として流れ(背景流れ)が存在する。特にこれらの環境適応能力を理解し活用するためには、流体力学の正確な理解が必要である。さらに、実際の微生物はそのnmスケールの細胞小構造が、個体スケールの流体現象や運動に影響を与え、さらには赤潮のような数kmにも及ぶ微生物の多様で複雑な分布ダイナミクスを引き起こしている。さらには、時間的にも細胞の環境適応能力は、世代を超えて引き継がれている。このように、原生生物の行動力学は本質的に時空間マルチスケールの力学現象である。本研究では微細藻を中心にマルチスケールのジオラマ環境を記述する数理モデルの構築を行う。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究で掲げている以下の4つの研究課題ごとに記述する。
[課題1:細胞のかたちの形成過程] 細胞の形状は多岐にわたり、特に珪藻においてはnmスケールの微細構造パターンが特徴的である。そこで、 結晶成長とパター ン形成を再現する反応拡散方程式ベースの数理モデルの構築を目指した。特に今年度は、反応拡散系の数理モデルの構築と有限要素法による数値計算を行い、一 定の定性的な再現に成功した。[課題2:細胞のかたちと流体中における輸送機能] 塩濃度変化や外部の力学的刺激に対する細胞の応答、及び細胞間の化学物質を介 した相互作用について、実験と理論の両面から研究を進めた。昨年までの成果を論文として出版すると同時に、より一般の形状を持つ遊泳物体の流体中の運動に 関する解析を進めた。パッシブな輸送の時間スケールと変形の時間スケールを分離したマルチスケール解析を用いることで、背景流れ場中の微生物の運動の一般 化に成功した。また、細胞の内部駆動力を取り込んだアクティブソフトマターの一般的な記述に取り組んだ。[課題3:多様な微生物の生殖ダイナミクスにおける環 境とのフィードバック] 細胞の流体中の輸送問題に関して数理モデリング手法の開発を進めた。特に、[課題2]で考察した一般的な形状を持つ粒子の集団運動と環 境の相互作用に関して、理論解析を進めた。集団分布の低次のモーメントを数値的に求めることで、その拡散現象を特徴づけることができた。[課題4: 個体の運 動と生態・進化のスケールを結びつける数理モデリング] 物体の形状と流体中の運動が生物の行動によってどのように記述されるべきか、その一般的な理論的枠 組みを考察した。また、生物の行動の学習を考慮した強化学習による運動の数理モデルの構築をおこなった。

Reason

本研究課題で掲げている4つの研究課題ごとに記載する。
[課題1:細胞のかたちの形成過程] 数理モデルの構築に一定の目処がたち、モデルの欠点等も明確になった。おおむね順調に進展していると言える。 [課題2:細胞のかたちと流体中における輸送機能] 細胞の形状と流体中の物体輸送に関する基本的な形状の対称性に関して、遊泳物体への一般的な拡張ができた。 研究開始当初では想定できない進捗であると言える。
[課題3:多様な微生物の生殖ダイナミクスにおける環境とのフィードバック] 集団運動の環境中の振る舞いを定量的に記述す理論を精度良く数値的に計算できるよ うになった。順調な進捗と言える。
[課題4: 個体の運動と生態・進化のスケールを結びつける数理モデリング] 生物の行動を統一的に記述できうる一般的な理論的枠組みの方向性が定まってきた。 当初はこのような一般的な問題に拡張できることも想像しておらず、予想以上の進捗と言える。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

前年度に引き続き、以下の4つの研究課題ごとに記述する。
[課題1:細胞のかたちの形成過程] 昨年度までの研究結果をまとめると同時に、昨年度までの研究をさらに押し進める。 細胞表面の詳細な形状パターンと細胞内 外の物質輸送機能の関係について、流体力学をベースとした数理モデルの構築を目指す。
[課題2:細胞のかたちと流体中における輸送機能] 昨年度までの研究結果をまとめると同時に、昨年度までの研究をさらに押し進める。外部の化学的・力学的環境 に対する細胞の応答、これらを介した細胞間の相互作用について、実験的・理論的の両方から研究を進める。さらに、外部環境を入力信号とする細胞の情報処理 機構を考慮した行動力学方程式の数理モデルを構築し、細胞行動力学の理論的定式化を進める[課題4とも重なる]。 [課題3:多様な微生物の生殖ダイナミクスにおける環境とのフィードバック] 昨年度までの研究結果をまとめると同時に、昨年度までの研究をさらに押し進める。 細胞の内部駆動力を取り込んだアクテ ィブソフトマターの一般的な記述も継続して取り組む。
[課題4: 個体の運動と生態・進化のスケールを結びつける数理モデリング] 昨年度までの研究結果をまとめると同時に、昨年度までの研究をさ らに押し進める。 形状や運動が群衆レベルの動態に与える影響、およびこれらがどのように進化していくのかを解析する。
