Outline of Research at the Start

原生知能とは，個と環境が不可分で変動が大きい複雑な自然環境において原生動物が発揮する，環境への高度な適応能力を指す.原生知能を理解し応用につなげるにはアルゴリズムとしての記述と評価が必要となる．本研究では，微細藻類の好適環境探索を題材とし，適度に取捨選択された複雑環境のもとでの挙動を観測・解析することで原生知能のアルゴリズムを抽出し，その数理科学的特徴を明らかにすることを目指す．

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究では，複雑環境下において微生物や運動細胞が好適環境の探索を実現する原生知能のアルゴリズムを記述し，その普遍性や応用可能性を検証することを目的とする。具体的なモデル生物としてミドリムシ等の微細藻類のほか、精子等の運動細胞を用いる。本年度は微生物の個体および集団運動の解析を行った。(1) ミドリムシ集団が一様な光環境において、3次元的な環境でも局在対流構造を持つことを実験的に示した。こうした構造は時空間的に非一様な光環境を活用することで制御出来、水深や濃度に依存して構造の詳細が変わる。(2)ミドリムシ個体が光環境下で運動する数理モデルを解析し、正および負の走光性を示すことや、光勾配への応答といった、実験で観測される挙動を再現することを示した。(3) ミドリムシを非一様な光環境に置いたときの長期的な個体運動を解析し、2乗平均距離(MSD)の挙動が光強度に依存して異なることを明らかとした。またミドリムシ個体運動の統計モデルについての研究に着手した。計画班内では定期的な進捗報告とともに必要に応じて個別の打ち合わせを行うなど、緊密に連絡を取り合っている。また他計画班とも同様に連絡体制を確立し、各計画班での研究課題に対する意見交換を進めている。特に今年度は(4) A01-2班と協力してホヤ精子の走化性挙動のモデル化およびアルゴリズム抽出の研究に着手した。国際的な取り組みとして、2023年10月に研究集会「生物流体力学における境界の役割」を開催し、この中で英国ニュートン研究所と国際共同セミナーを企画・実施し、本研究計画班の研究について議論をおこなった。

Reason

特任助教1名の協力により、実験および数値解析両面から研究が推進できるようになった。班内会議も引き続き月1度のペースで実施し、進捗状況を報告し合っている。また本課題の計画班同士での会合も別に月1度のペースで行っている。特に今年度はA01-2班との議論が深まり、共同研究に着手した。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

研究実施計画に沿って研究を着実に推進してゆく。主要テーマである、ジオラマ環境におけるモデル微生物の個体および集団運動の研究を引き続き進め、原生知能アルゴリズムの抽出・理解に役立てる。研究計画班での研究分担者および研究協力者とは緊密に連絡を取り合い、研究実施計画に基づいたそれぞれの課題を実行するとともに共同研究を進める。
