Outline of Research at the Start

日本国内各地の森林生態系を対象とし、炭素フローとそれに関係する各種要因について既存データの収集および新規取得を行う。さらに、安定同位体でラベルした植物遺体を埋設し、その後の分解・隔離プロセスを追跡する。各炭素フロープロセスの速度に、気候、生態系を構成する植物の形質、土壌微生物の組成、生成された土壌有機物の化学的・物理的存在形態、土壌化の程度が与える影響をモデル化する。さらに、シミュレーションを行い、炭素貯留を最大にする森林の設計を行う。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

森林の炭素貯留量を決定する要因を明らかにするため、日本各地の森林にて植生調査、気象情報取得、土壌調査を行っている。この年度は、5月30日-6月1日に福岡県2ヶ所と大分県1ヶ所、8月29日-9月4日に宮崎県2ヶ所、9月25日-28日に四国4ヶ所、12月14日-16日に対馬1ヶ所で調査を行った。各地で深さ1mまで土壌を掘り、層5cmごとにサンプリングを行った。土壌中に含まれる炭素量、放射性同位体14Cの割合、各種有機化合物の含量、バクテリアのメタゲノムなどを解析する。また、土壌を掘った部分の周囲の植生調査を行った。これらの結果は現在解析中である。
環境省の事業モニタリング1000サイトで得られたデータ、サイトが位置する環境要因のデータ、サイトに生育する植物形質のデータを取得し、森林地上部(幹)の貯蔵炭素量とその決定要因を解析した。様々な気象情報、植物情報、土壌情報を説明変数、地上部現存量を目的変数とした解析を行った結果、気温、構成種の葉面積あたり葉重、スギが優占種であるか否かが地上部現存量の決定要因であることが明らかとなった。
安定同位体13Cと15Nでラベルした枯葉の分解実験を行うため、ラベル植物の育成を行った。内部のCO2濃度をリアルタイムでモニターできるアクリル製のチャンバーを作製した。このチャンバーを人工気象内に設置し、植物を半密閉環境で、13CO2と15NO3-を与えて落葉広葉樹コナラを育成した。約半年間の育成を行い、約100枚の枯葉を得た。引き続き、常緑広葉樹アラカシの育成を行っている。

ヘリウムガスの供給不足による安定同位体比測定の遅れが生じているものの、研究全体としては順調に進行している。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

予定通り研究を進める。地上部炭素量については、現存量を説明する論文をまとめ、投稿する。さらに、新規参入・成長・脂肪を導入した動的モデルの作成を始める。土壌炭素量の情報も蓄積しつつあり、モデル化を進める。ラベルした枯葉はコナラ・アラカシとも作製を終えたため、分解実験を行う。
