Outline of Research at the Start

Outline of Final Research Achievements
In this study, comprehensive analysis of d18O contributed to elucidating the migration routes of Japanese flying squid, advancing the analysis of migration histories of bluefin tuna and Japanese sardine, and enhancing our understanding of migration mechanisms. Notably, new insights were gained, including the potential for using d13C as a metabolic indicator, the possibility of distinguishing east-west and ocean regions using heavy metal stable isotope ratios, and the potential for identifying migration areas through trace element composition analysis. These findings have significantly advanced the development of “biogeochemical tags.” The findings of this study are expected to deepen our understanding of the migratory ecology of marine organisms and improve the accuracy of predictions regarding biological distribution and changes in fishery resources in response to environmental changes such as global warming.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
