Outline of Research at the Start

親潮域を含めた西部北太平洋亜寒帯域は、我が国にとって豊かな水産資源を生み出す重要な海域で、食物網の底辺を支える植物プランクトンの生産力が大きな海域として知られる。本研究計画では、縁辺海を含む亜寒帯外洋域の高栄養物質海域がどのように形成され、栄養物質がどのように西岸境界流である東カムチャツカ海流や親潮によって日本沿岸に運ばれ、どのように陸水の影響を受けて沿岸親潮水を形成し、また津軽暖流水と混合し、日本沿岸域から亜寒帯外洋域の生物生産構造を作り出しているのかを明らかにする。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

R5年度の概要を以下に示す。
(1)海盆スケール研究(縁辺海ー亜寒帯域ー親潮):2018年に行われた研究船マルタノフスキー航海(Mu18)で採取した海水の分析を行い、西部ベーリング海における溶存態マンガンの分布について、鉄濃度と比較しながら議論を行った。沿岸域でマンガン濃度が上昇しておりその供給は顕著であった。またみらいMR23-7航海(10/4-11/4)の日付け変更線付近、ベーリング海から30N付近まで南北横断観測時に高速水温計観測を実施した。

(2)陸・沿岸スケール研究(陸ー沿岸親潮ー親潮):沿岸親潮上流に位置する南部オホーツク海の9月観測を実施した。また、これまでに得られたデータとともに南部オホーツク海の栄養物質の供給過程を検討した。その結果、北太平洋由来の栄養塩がクリル海盆深層に分布しており、冬季の中冷水の形成と、春季の中冷水と表層低塩分水の混合によって、高栄養塩濃度の水塊が形成されることを示した。また、沿岸親潮水およびその前駆水中に含まれる淡水の起源を評価するために、太平洋道東沖の腐植様蛍光性溶存有機物(FDOMH)と塩分の関係を3成分混合モデルにより解析した。解析の結果、4月の南部オホーツク海表層では淡水のうち42.0±16.4%が河川水であり、3月の太平洋道東沖では淡水のうち21.0±17.4%が河川水である事が分かった。

(1)と(2)の栄養物質循環と基礎生産過程:オホーツク海から北海道南岸へ流入する水塊と春季植物プランクトンブルームの関係について、1997年以降の衛星データ(海面水温、クロロフィルa、CDOM光吸収係数を用いて調べた。高クロロフィルa濃度が観測された時の海面水温は、北海道南岸で0-3℃、根室-択捉島間で3-7℃であった。3月には根室-色丹島間にオホーツク海起源と考えられる氷点下の水塊が観測されたがブルーム時期とは一致しなかった。

Reason

当初の計画にある(1)海盆スケール研究(縁辺海ー亜寒帯域ー親潮)と(2)陸・沿岸スケール研究(陸ー沿岸親潮ー親潮)のそれぞれの研究について、観測航海を実施し、サンプル採取、化学分析、データ解析が進んでおり、亜寒帯外洋域の親潮域に与える影響や、沿岸親潮水の化学物質濃度を決める過程などが明らかになりつつある。また形成された親潮水・沿岸親潮水における基礎生産過程についても衛星データを基にした解析が進んでいる。これらの内容から、本計画班の研究は概ね順調に進展していると判断する。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

R6年度以降は、(1)海盆スケール研究(縁辺海ー亜寒帯域ー親潮)については、R7年度に予定されている白鳳丸ベーリング海および亜寒帯太平洋の観測に備えて、準備を進める。(2)陸・沿岸スケール研究(陸ー沿岸親潮ー親潮)については、引き続き南部オホーツク海の観測を実施し、沿岸親潮との物質交換的な繋がりを定量的に把握することを試みる。さらに津軽暖流の影響についても観測データを精査する。(1)と(2)を統合し、外洋と沿岸の物質交換過程から決まる栄養物質の化学的プロパティと、衛星から得られる生物生産の情報を統合し、日本周辺沿岸域の生物生産を生み出す仕組みをあきらかにしていく。
