Outline of Final Research Achievements

Noji group in the University of Tokyo aimed to develop novel digital counting quantification methods with single-molecule or single-particle sensitivity by use of femtoliter chamber array device. Digital ELISA with unprecedentedly high sensitivity was established and applied for counting of absolute numbers of protein molecules expressed in single cells. Digital Virus counting method was also developed that revealed the only a few % of total virus population possess the capability of infection. Watanabe group in Riken developed novel imaging methods for protein quantification such as multicolor single-molecule imaging method and fundamental intracellular parameters that represent whole cellular activities such as total protein abundance and gross protein diffusion coefficient.
