Outline of Research at the Start

本領域は、化学反応に寄与するイオン(活イオン)を濃縮した新奇液体材料群「活イオン液体」に関する統合的概念を確立し、変革的学術体系「活イオン液体の科学」の創成を目的とする。本研究計画では、「有機化学・生化学」的な視点から活イオンリッチ反応場の構造・挙動・反応・応用展開を精査する。
2023年度は、セルロースや木材などの木質高分子(担当:鈴木)や細胞や組織などの生体高分子や薬用有効成分(担当:黒田)の「溶解」現象に関わる活イオンの定義づけや定量、活イオン濃度の制御法の確立に挑む。他研究班と連携して、活イオン液体の構造と溶解現象に関わる機能相関を解明し、活イオン液体ならではの新規利用技術を開発する。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

R5年度に引き続き、イオン液体・双性イオン液体・溶媒和イオン液体・水和融体・深共晶溶媒などの多種多様な新奇液体材料群「活イオン液体」の木質高分子(セルロース・リグニン・木材など)や生体高分子(タンパク・細胞・組織など)、薬用有効成分に対する「溶解性」について、ハンセン溶解度パラメータなどの定量評価も含めた網羅的な調査を行い、各溶解現象における「溶媒」としての「活イオン」の定義づけに取り組んだ。さらに、活イオン液体特有の溶解性をいかすことで、多様なリグニン種に適用可能な官能基(OH/COOHなど)の定量分析技術の開発にも成功した。加えて、黒田(分担)は生化学分野における活イオン液体の基礎研究に取り組み、生物に対する「毒性」の観点から、「活イオン」の定義は「浸透圧」に関連することを見出した。
R6年度の目標である有機化学反応の「触媒」としての活イオン液体に関する基礎研究として、イオン液体や双性イオン液体などの“塩”を用いた均一系の化学反応系において、狙いの反応(主反応)を高選択的に促進するための触媒設計指針を確立し、諸反応の触媒機構の解明に取り組んだ。例えば、リグノセルロースへのアシル基の導入時の置換度・置換基分布の選択性の向上や、リグノセルロースの前処理におけるヘミセルロースの選択的な低分子化など、活イオン液体ならではの反応系を確立した。
R7年度の目標である活イオン液体の応用に関しても、蓄電デバイス用部材(ゲル電解質・電極用炭素材料など)の創製やセルロースを原料としたバイオエタノール生産、細胞の凍結保存などに関連した新技術や高効率プロセスの開発を手掛けており、既に成果を挙げつつある状況である。

Reason

2023年度目標であった「溶媒」としての活イオン液体の網羅的評価を完了し、「溶解現象」における「活イオン」の定義を提案するとともに、生命化学における「毒性」に関する「活イオン」の定義を見出した。
2024年度の目標である「触媒」としての活イオン液体の設計指針を構築し、リグノセルロースの均一系エステル交換反応における置換度や置換基、分布を自在に制御する技術を確立した。また、リグノセルロースの前処理として、一成分(ヘミセルロース)を選択的に加水分解する技術を開発したことから、当初の計画通りに進展したといえる。
2025年度の目標である活イオン液体の応用(高効率プロセスや新技術の開発)に関して、セルロースから高効率的にバイオエタノールを生産するための技術開発や細胞の凍結保存技術の確立、さらには、蓄電デバイス用部材である高分子ゲル電解質や電極用炭素材料の開発にも着手していることから、当初の計画以上に進展していると判断した。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

2025年度は、2024年度に引き続き、活イオン液体を「溶媒」かつ「触媒」として利用したリグノセルロースの化学変換プロセスの開発に取り組むとともに、細胞やタンパクなどの利活用技術の開発にも従事する。鈴木(代表)および黒田(分担)それぞれが、有機化学および生化学分野を主な対象とした応用研究に取り組み、多様な用途に特化した「活イオンリッチ反応場」の提案を目指す。
