| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In order to study strangeness mixing in neutron stars, we investigated interactions of Λ, Σ, and K- in neutron-rich nuclear matter at J-PARC.
(1) We searched for a neutron-rich 6ΛH hypernucleus via 6Li(π-,K+). No events were observed and a stringent upper limit of the production cross section was given. The spectrum also suggested a repulsive Σ-nuclear interaction. (2) In γ-spectroscopy experiments we observed a 4ΛHe(1+→0+) γ ray, which confirmed existence of a large charge symmetry breaking in the ΛN interaction. 19ΛF γ rays were also observed and the level scheme was determined, giving information on ΛN interaction in heavy nuclei. (3) We searched for K-pp bound states via 3He(K-,n) reaction and observed a clear evidence for a bound state in a Λp mass spectrum. (4) To clarify Σ- appearance in neutron stars, a Σp scattering experiment has been prepared. We constructed a new detector system for recoil protons and confirmed sufficient performance with proton beams.
