| Outline of Research at the Start |
南極ドームふじアイスコアを分析し、過去数十万年間の気候・氷床変動の強制力や応答（南極・南大洋の温度や積雪、氷床高度、エアロゾル関連物質、温室効果ガスなど）を復元する。中低緯度や北半球を含む世界の古環境データとの年代対比を通じ、南極とグローバル気候システムとの相互作用の理解に迫る。また、南極沿岸アイスコアによる近年の積雪・エアロゾル・微生物の解析から、直接観測とリンクする復元も行う。領域内の観測研究や過去の地質学的研究、モデリング研究と連携して新学理「グローバル南極学」の創成に貢献する。
