Outline of Final Research Achievements

Discovery of (1)Topological spin conversion, (2) non-linear spin conversion, (3) a novel spin conversion mechanism in atomically flat materials, (4) more efficient spin conversion using magnetic tunnel junction are realized in the research project.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

研究開始当初、電気的スピン変換は極めて限定的な材料系・実験条件で可能な現象だ、という理解であったが、本研究の推進によりスピン変換においてはスピンsと結合する物理量が枢軸的に重要であるという基盤学理の理解、特ににk（波数）とL（軌道角運動量）が前者はトポロジカルなスピン変換、後者はスピン軌道相互作用による変換として大きな役割を果たすため極言すればスピン変換の場は遍在（ユビキタス）し、極めて多様な異種界面・表面、またバルク材料がスピン変換のステージとなりうることを理解・実証することができた。またスピン変換効率を決定する微視的要因の理解を大きく進め知的財産権の創出にも至った。
