Research Abstract |
The Nak Dong River Basin is one of the largest river basin in Korea. Large cities such as Pusan and Daegu and various industrial activities are located along the basin in addition to numerous small traditional communities with agricultural activities. The rapid economic growth in the basin, however, brought the shortage of water resources and water pollution in the river. One of the largest project to develop water resources is the construction of a reservoir in the mouth of the Nak Dong River. Thus it is necessary for the protection and improvement of water environment of the reservoir to change the system of water use and wastewater discharge not only in the area around the reservoir but also in the upper basin such as Daegu, i.e. basin-wade management of water quality. It is urgently required for harmonized and sustainable growth of the basin to develop comprehensive system for water use, wastewater management and conservation of river environment. In this cooperative study, a computer-aided system for the comprehensive management of aquatic environment based on water use, wastewater management, agricultural and industrial activities in the Nak Dong River basin was developed.
