Research Abstract |
The second phase of the project was performed for the period of Sept. 1989 to Jan. 1990 as a collaborative work with the members of the Tribhuvan University. The main aim of the project is to make a complete geologic profile along the Kali Gandaki River in Central Nepal. The main results are summarized as follows. 1) The Churia Group in Sub Himalayan Belt was surveyed and the horizon of Ramapithecus panjabicus has been confirmed to be of Chron ( 10 Ma ). The tectonic polarity of southward migration of sedimentary basin, which is consistent with the collision of Indian plate against to Eurasian plate, has been recognized well in the surveyed area. 2) The Lesser Himalaya was studied in the Tansen area and nature and origin of the Bari Gad fault were analysed. 3) The Higher Himalaya was surveyed along the Kali-Gandaki River. The second symposium on the Geodynamics of the Nepal Himalayas followed with two field-excursions was held under joint auspices between the project team and Tribhuvan University and mutural understanding has been successfully obtained.
