| Research Abstract |
In 1989 and 1990, Kitagawa, Toda and Watabe visited Changchun, Tilin Province, and collected flies with a collaboration of Sun Hui, North-East Teachers College, in Zuojia Natural Forest Reserve. In Tilin Province. We recognized 25 different species in total, in 1989. Toda visited Changchun again and collected flies with Sun Hui in the Changbai Mountain, near North Korea border and Zuojia Forest. We collected other 60 species there and a total number of species is to be 85, 61 known species and 24 new and unidentified species. Thirty-one known species out of 61 are the new record in China. The characteristics of the Drosophila fauna of Tilin is very close to that of Hokkaido. It is strongly suggested that Drosophila in Hokkaido have arrived there through the northern rout, Far East of Eurasia Continent-Saharin-Hokkaido.
In 1989 and 1990, Kitagawa, Toda and Watabe visited The Xinjiang Uigru Autonomous Region and investigated the Drosophila fauna in Xinjiang Province. We collected flies with the aid of members of Xinjiang University at three localities, Urmuqi, Yili and Artai, and recognized 32 different species, including 22 known and 10 unidentified species.
We invited Chen Huazhong, Institute of Genetics of Hudan University, to Japan to identify collected samples of the East China Area, Zhejiang, Fujian, Anhui, Hunan and Geizhou Province, with the collaboration of Toda and other Japanese scientists. They have investigated 17, 644 samples and found 4 new recorded species in China and are preparing an article to publish for one new species.
Up to now, we have recognized 528 different species of in total in Mainland China. Among them, there are 294 known species, including 68 new species described by our Joint Research Program, 19 new species in press and 22 new species of in preparation to be published.
