Research Abstract |
In this research we have investigated "culture of illness" on the coast of Kenya, with specific reference to Kwale and Kilifi district where we have carried out field research concerning Mijikenda which means 'nine tribes(Digo,Duruma,Giriama,Ribe,Rabai,Kauma,Kambe,Choyni,Jibana)'. Each researcher has his own field (Yoshida:Kilimani;Digo area,Hamamoto:Kiziamondzo;Duruma area,Ueda:Mariakani;Giriama arbanized area,Keida:Kakoneni;Giriama local area). Results of our research will be summaraized as follows: the data which collected on categorization of diseases, conception of illness, healing rituals, traditional doctors and so on;the collection of data concerning 'narration' and 'practice' of illness, having an interview with local people and particpating in ritual practices ;and, finally, the difference which observed between a traditional doctor's conseption and general conception of illness. Although we have obtained the basic data on Mijikenda, these are not sufficient for our study. It is nessessary to collete data in detail in the near future.
