Research Abstract |
It is a recent trend in developed countries that essay type tests and personal criteria such as a sense of volition have been increasingly used in university admissions in addition to objective tests or written examinations which are adopted to evaluate basic achievement. Essay type examinations or interview tests are used to evaluate further or wider knowledge. This trend was found out by an previous research (Naotada Nakajima (ed.) "University Entrance Examination in the World" ((Jiji Tsushin Sha, 1986)) ). With the present research project, we confirm that the trend is getting further in recent years. [United States of America] Two major standard tests (SAT, ACT) have been innovated. There are debates about exceeded reliance to testing and improvement of testing. [England and Wales, France and Germany] Syllabuses for qualifying examinations to Higher Education are being unified. [Spain] Syllabi are being unified by states. The secondary school curriculum to prepare for higher education was renewed in the light of the reform of the educational system as a whole. [International Baccalaureate] There are improvements in evaluating achievement. It is emphasized that studying international relationships is important. This trend would be suggestive for reforming the college admissions system in Japan.
