Research Abstract |
Structure and variability of stratospheric planetary waves were analyzed by use of satellite data. It was found that in the southern hemisphere stratosphere wavenumber 2 component moves eastward unlike its northern hemispehre conuterpart. The component played an essential role in producing the strong sudden warming observed 1988 southern spring. A 2-dimensional photochemical/dynamical model of the atmospheric ozone was developed. Computed ozone distributions on the meridional plane are in good agreement with the observations.
