Research Abstract |
The main purposes of this project are to develop new methods for converting coals including Canadian coals efficiently into liquids, adsorbents and so on by cooperation of Japanese and Canadian researchers, and to construct much more close, productive and cooperative relationship between Japan and Canada through this project. Japan-Canada joint research program started in 1987, and then this program is a second stage. Six Japanese researchers, Professors Sakata, Takarada, Fuda, Tsuji, Mae and Shishido, stayed at six Canadian institutions for 62 days to carry out joint research with Canadian researchers. The joint research involved a survey of coal research in Canadian experimental work in the institutions. Professor Hashimoto visited at the University of Waterloo in the beginning of September. At that time, Japanese and Canadian participants met to review 1989 progress and to discuss future plan of this program. Two papers for coal pyrolysis were presented at the national meeting of American Chemical Society in Miami. A report of 74 pages was prepared and distributed to the Ministry of Education of Japan and related institutions and researchers. The final program of this project in 1990 was presented to the Ministry of Education, which include a final conference in Canada.
