Research Abstract |
The newly selected foci were: (A) high prevalent area; (B) low prevalent one; and (C) nearly controlled one. The positive rates of the Schistosoma japonicum egg were 65.4%, 12.2-18.3% and 0% in areas (A), (B) and (C), respectively. In (C), the positive rate of 6.5% was obtained as a result of serological tests (COPT and IHA). Some of the people with the eggs were serologically tested by means of ELISA before and after the treatment with praziquantel. Within six months of the treatment, there occurred a remarkable decrease of the antibody titer against the egg antigen. Three kinds of molluscicides were investigated for their effects in laboratories and fields. Cartap among them showed high activity in field trials. The protozoan parasites of vector snails were also investigated for the purpose of biological control. We investigated heterogeneity of idiotypes of anti-egg antibodies in Chinese patients. The serum samples were tested for activating schistosome-specific T lymphocyte in vitro. The result suggests that there is a regulatory idiotypic antibodies in some patients and that the test seems useful for the analysis of immunopathological mechanisms in schistosomiasis japonica. Pathological features of hepatic carcinoma related to schistosomiasis and hepatitis B were studied on the patients both in China and in Japan.
