Research Abstract |
Many attempts have been made experimentally and theoretically to understand the properties of the ionic conduction in superionic conductors by physicists, chemists and material researchers. The purpose of this research project is as follows : Fundamental properties of superionic materials are discussed along the reseachers of the different fields. And then, we search the new direction of future study for understanding. the structure and dynamical properties of the superionic conductors. We had three meetings at Nasu (1989), Norikura (1990) and Kawatabi (1991), and 73 papers were presented. Stimulative and active discussions were made in these meeting, and we got much useful information about the problem. Especially, new experimental and theoretical studies were brought us the following good approach to understand the properties of the superionic materials : (1) The micro-structure or local-structure we re determined by the optical technique. (2) The properties were analysed as a prototype of the disorder system. (3) The influence of the core-electrons on the conduction ions should be taken into account in the theoretical works. (4) New materials were made by using new techniques. Through those discussions, we obtained a conclusion. Namely, following investigations are necessary for an advance to the next step of the study and for the understanding the conduction mechanism : (1) The study using the crystals in which the fundamental physical and chemical properties were well understood. (2) The development of the new materials of thin film and/or of layered structure (super-lattice structure) with clean surface and/or interface, and the measurements using those developed materials. (3) The study of the electronic states of core-electrons of the conduction ions.
